Wicked Plant Art

“We are not like others. We have claws for a reason.”

Ethan Chandler

A wickedly imaginative blend of art and nature, this collection reflects the dark obsession of a curious botanist logging sketches, photos, and handwritten notes into her research journal. You’ll see Stinging Nettle, Hemlock, Poppies, Foxglove, and more. While beautiful and sometimes helpful in small doses, their toxic personalities can also cause discomfort, pain, and even death. “As the saying goes, ‘the dose makes the poison’ – and that couldn’t be more true for these plants,” says McCullough.

Wicked Plant Art in Public Spaces

Lauritzen Gardens – Omaha, NE – Autumn 2024

Thank you for such a wonderful show. Your work was perfect for our live Wicked Plant exhibit, and we are so appreciative that you made custom pieces to complement our display. Our guests absolutely loved your work. We hope you consider showing with us again in the future!

Ortenstone Gardens & Sculpture Park – Detroit Lakes, MN – Autumn 2025

We were thrilled to bring this collection back to Detroit Lakes. Carmen’s Wicked Plant Art is a celebration of nature in its darker form. At a time of year when most plants are going dormant, we were excited to be able to showcase the entire original artwork collection in our museum, select art prints at Bluebird Books, and large format prints of these deliciously dark botanicals along the Aspen Overlook Trail in Ortenstone Gardens & Sculpture Park.

About Luna Thorne

Our curious botanist goes by the name of Luna Thorne. To what end does she log sketches, photos, and handwritten notes about wicked plants in her research journal? Belladonna, Hemlock, Poppies, and Foxglove are at the forefront of her dark obsession. But are they friend or foe? While beautiful and sometimes helpful in small doses, their toxic personalities can also cause discomfort, pain, and even death.

She is no longer afraid of the dark. So when the full moon beckons, Luna answers the call in the hopes that her wicked plants reveal even more of their deliciously dark secrets.
