Wicked Plant Art - Traveling Exhibit
Deliciously Dark Botanical Art by Carmen McCullough
Exhibition Overview:
Wicked Plant Art is a collection of 22 mixed media collages inspired by toxic and medicinal plants, presented as pages from the research journal of a fictitious botanist. Each piece weaves together images, paint, and texture celebrating the plant world’s darker side.
Originally created for and exhibited at the Lauritzen Botanical Gardens in Omaha, Nebraska, this immersive series has attracted art, gardening, and folklore enthusiasts with its unique blend of storytelling and botanical art.
Artist Statement:
As an artist and researcher, I am fascinated by the intersection of nature, myth, and mortality. Wicked Plant Art explores this connection by giving voice to both familiar and forgotten plants—such as foxglove, hemlock, stinging nettle, and poppy—whose histories are as layered as the artwork itself.
Viewers are invited into a fictional field journal that might have been discovered in the archives of a naturalist, reminding us that plants are both life-giving and dangerous, beautiful and deadly. Learn more about the art at WickedPlantArt.com.
